Applications for a Rental Subsidy

Starting today, eligible New York households would be able to fill out and submit their application for a rental subsidy via the New York state’s website. Applications will be accepted during a two-week application period.
The following criteria must be met:
1. The household income, including unemployment benefits, was less than 80% of the area median income both before March 1, 2020, and at the time of the application,
2. More than 30% of the household’s gross income has been paid towards rent before March 1, 2020, and at the time of the application, and
3. The household has lost income between April 1, 2020, and July 31, 2020.
Eligible applicants would receive up to four months of financial assistance covering the difference between the household’s rent burden as of March 1, 2020, and the burden increase during the following months. The funds will be paid directly to the landlord. To prove eligibility, applicants need to submit a copy of their government-issued ID, residential lease, or rent statement, as well as evidence of their gross household income before March 1, 2020, and at the time of the application.
